Headquartered in Wheeling, Crittenton Services has been helping children and families to heal, grow, and thrive since 1895. As a result, Crittenton, along with several other Wheeling area companies, were recognized by the Wheeling Chamber of Commerce and WV Secretary of State Mac Warner for serving the community for 100+ years. The event was recently held at the Rivers Edge on Main Street on July 22, 2021.

“We are grateful to receive this recognition and honored to have served the children and families in West Virginia for over 125 years,” said Richard Royce, President and CEO.  “We were founded by Charles Crittenton as a request by the Wheeling Women’s Club to be a home for unwed mothers.  Our mission has expanded since then to impact the broader community.”

While Crittenton is well known in the Ohio Valley for providing residential care for young women and children, its mission has evolved to a full range of trauma-informed behavioral health services that includes residential programs, Wellspring Family Services, and Trauma Informed Elementary Schools (TIES). Wellspring Family Services, Crittenton’s Community Counseling Program, currently serves approximately 1,000 clients throughout West Virginia.

Royse finished, “While we are proud to serve the community, it is unfortunate that our services are in such high demand. The pandemic has highlighted the need for comprehensive behavioral health services throughout West Virginia. We thank the community for their continued support as we strive to positively impact the lives of all West Virginians.”
